When I started using Smartsheet - over 10 years ago - it was in the simplest way possible. A basic grid with checkboxes so three people could coordinate travel plans.

 

That was it.

 

Nothing fancy.

Then one day, everything changed.

​

I was asked to report sales figures to senior leadership and stumbled across the Dashboard feature. I had never built a Smartsheet dashboard before, but I had a hunch it could do more for us than another Excel file ever could.

​

I was right.

​

That dashboard was called a game changer. Our weekly updates suddenly influenced decisions across the entire organization. Leaders could see, at a glance, exactly where we stood against our goals. Even better, they could click a metric and jump straight to the underlying data.

​

That experience lit a spark.

​

From there, I dove deeper. Experimenting with automations, building reports, creating more dashboards, adding symbols to keep teams aligned, and using dates and conditional formatting to highlight what mattered most. Eventually, I became Smartsheet certified and realized how much I loved helping others understand what the platform could do.

​

But here’s the truth: My learning journey was not a straight line.

​

I was busy. I didn’t have hours to learn a new tool. And honestly, I didn’t even know what I didn’t know. I had no idea you could switch a grid into Calendar View, or that Sheet Summary existed, or that formulas could be both maddening and magical. I learned slowly, often by stumbling around in the dark.

​

And once everything finally clicked, I knew I wanted to help others get there faster and with far less frustration.

​

That’s why I created Smarter Workflow.
